Grand Tetons – 2025
We arrived at the Gros Ventre (pronounced "Grow Vaunt") Campground mid-afternoon on Sunday, September 28, 2025. It was my Mom's first birthday in heaven. She would have been 91 here on earth.
The drive over the pass to get to our campsite was maybe the steepest we've ever come across, with 10% grades up and down. Our F350 performed beautifully, especially the automatic exhaust brakes going downhill.
The Tetons were even more beautiful than we had imagined, with the fall colors in full effect. Our campsite was equally beautiful.
We saw some of the major sites and venues in and around the area:
- Mormon Row (the famous barn whose architecture matches the landscape
- Schwabackers Landing (where in the morning you can often see moose coming down to the river for a drink.)
- Jenny Lake
- The Tetons themselves, which were spectacular!
We also went for a 15 mile bike-ride along the trail between Moose and Jenny Lake. Maybe the most picturesque ride we've ever taken. Afterwards we had lunch at Dornan's Pizza & Pasta before heading down to the town of Jackson. Pretty cool little town.
We're already thinking about how we should come back at the same time next year, but stay longer, maybe 5 - 7 days. You can make camping reservations 6 months in advance. Lovely, lovely place.
