Home Again – Spring, 2026
After two months away, we returned home on March 28, 2026. We spent five weeks at Superstition Sunrise RV Resort in Apache Junction, our second stay there. Then we drove to Melissa & Marks in Missouri for a 10 day visit, before heading towards home.
We wanted to take Interstate 80 on the way back, but Nebraska was having the largest wildfire in their history, which had burned over 700,000 acres and was perilously close to HWY 80. So, we chose to drive back the way we came, on the 40.
The weather was super hot in the south, 90's and 100's, but it was the safer way to go. We didn't have a single raindrop on the windshield the entire way home, even over Snoqualmie Pass.
The only tough driving day was between West Point, Utah and Glenns Ferry, Idaho. The wind was blowing right in our face the entire drive at 40 to 50 mph. So, we could only safely go 55 - 60 mph towing the trailer.
We got 13.5 mpg from Hurricane, UT to West Point, UT the day before with almost no wind. Between West Point and Glenns Ferry we got 9 mpg.
We drove 1,329 miles from Apache Junction to Melissa and Mark's in four days. On the way home we drove 2,860 in 11 days, staying two days at Sand Hollow to rest. So, total driving miles for this trip was 4,189 miles. Our F350 performed beautifully and our Keystone Cougar made the trip comfortable.
The current round of conflict between the U.S. and Iran began right before we left Apache Junction and started driving towards Melissa's, which made for a very expensive trip there and back home.
We spent $2,062 in diesel alone to drive from Apache Junction, AZ to Melissa and Mark's and then back home.
Nice to be back in the NW. Chilly, but nice!
