Daroga State Park – Orondo, WA
On June 7th, 2026, we traveled to Daroga State Park in Orondo, WA, stopping briefly in Leavenworth for some delicious pastries on the way.
It was the first time that we didn't have to hook up in the middle of the street, as the carport had been removed the week before. Low stress, so nice!
Daroga State Park is located just 15 minutes from James and Kimberley's place.
The weather was decent, mostly sunny, upper 60's, but super windy. It was blowing 25-45 mph seemingly non-stop the whole time we were there. It let up only briefly, just to start up again from the opposite direction.
Our site was really close to the power lines. You could hear them buzzing, except for when the wind was blowing hard, then they made more of a whistling sound. Still it was worth it for the view.
While we were there, we
- Went for walks along the path in the park
- Enjoyed a bike ride Apple Capital Recreational Loop Trail, a nicely paved bike path that crossed the Columbia river in a couple of places
- Drove up to Chelan and Manson for an afternoon and ate lunch at Riverfront Park
- Played several games of cribbage
- Spent a fun afternoon with James and Kimberly playing putt-putt golf and eating lunch at Desert Canyon Golf Resort
- Read the book Reconnected by Carlos Whittaker, which discussed several ways to disconnect from technology and reconnect with family and friends in a deeper more meaningful and less distracted way
- Tried out our propane fire pit for the first time. It worked great!
So grateful we could enjoy this beautiful park and spend some time with James and Kimberley.
